Historique :	Dans sa composition, ce groupe est comparable à celui qui orne la partie haute du retable du maître-autel de l'église Saint-Martin de Rouez-en-Champagne (72) attribué à Gervais II Delabarre dans la première moitié du XVIIe siècle (IMH 1974/11/13). LE saint Joseph y est plus statique qu'à Lavenay.

Précision_sur la representation :	Groupe en terre cuite représentant saint Joseph et l'Enfant Jésus. L'homme et l'enfant sont représentés en mouvement. Ils ont été saisis "en marche". L'enfant joufflu montre une expression joyeuse et semble à la fois s'appuyer sur son père de la main droite et le guider de la main gauche. Le mouvement des cors entraînant les plis des vêtements. Saint Joseph est particulièrement animé, la jambe droite, passée devant la gauche, ne repose au sol que par le bout du pied. Le traitement du nez, du front et de la pilosité est très proche de la statue du saint évêque, les plis du visage de Joseph marquant un léger sourire. L'expression générale est cependant troublée par la mise en peinture actuelle. Là aussi on distingue de nombreuses traces de la polychromie d'origine : si le vêtement près du corps de Joseph semble de couleur claire, son manteau drapé était rouge alors que celui de l'Enfant était bleu.
